7 Home Remedies for Puffy Eyes
Puffy eyes are a complete drag. Puffy eyes are capable of making you look sick, tired, and downright homely! Here are a few quick fixes you can do right at home to rid you of the dreaded puffy eye.
1. Cold Spoons
Cold spoons help to reduce the puffiness under the eye area. Grab a few cold spoons and place them in your freezer. Once the spoons are cold remove them and place over the affected area. When one spoon begins to get warm, replace it with another cold spoon.
2. Drink Plenty of Water
Eye puffiness is typically due to water retention. When you have excessive salt in your diet, water is retained in the eye area. To get rid of puffiness, drink lots of water throughout the day, to flush your system, and of course avoid salty foods.
3. Green and Black Tea
Tea bags help to reduce puffiness, as well as are great for allergies, and removing redness. Soak tea bags in warm water, allow the tea bags to cool, to a comfortable temperature. Place the tea bags over each eye, and place a washcloth over them to hold them in place. When you are ready to remove them, you will notice that puffiness, as well as any redness and irritation, will have subsided. The longer you are able to leave them on, the more noticeable your results.
Cucumbers aren’t just great to eat, they do wonders for your eyes. Cucumbers have natural enzymes that work with your body to reduce inflammation. Place the cucumber in the refrigerator and once it’s cold, slice the cucumber and place a slice over each eye. When the cucumber slice becomes warm, replace it with a cold one. The more frequently you are able to do this throughout the day, the better the results.
5. Sleep Elevated
When you are lying flat down for hours at a time and then suddenly rise in the morning, it is very easy for the fluids under your eyes to cause puffiness. Sleeping with an extra pillow or two, keeps your head elevated and alleviates this issue.
Massaging the area around your eyes is a great way to diminish puffiness. take two fingers and go in circular motions around the circumference of your eyes. Doing this when you wake up in the morning helps to alleviate the excessive fluid that may have built up in your under eye area.
Potatoes don’t just make great fries, they are excellent for treating many different skin ailments, including puffy eyes. The starch in potatoes is rich in anti-inflammatory properties. Slice and peel a clean potato, and then place the potato over the affected area, leave on for ten to twenty minutes, and you will notice the puffiness diminished.
